Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Q1 January 2025

Here’s a look at the “new” January 2025 Q1 LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters! I say “new” because these mostly came out globally on the 1st of January, but these were significantly delayed here in Australia, and I only just managed to get them locally.

I understand that there are many people who follow for the latest Build-a-Minifigures on the blog, and it’s something that I really enjoy writing about, but unfortunately, I’m at the mercy of when the local LEGO Certified Stores put them out for sale. Now that the slow January period is over, hopefully I’ll be able to be on top of the most recent releases… and yes, February 2025 BAM Minifigures are on the way too, so I hope to find them soon!

With 7 characters to collect, we’re starting 2025 quite strongly, and there are some really interesting elements and characters that I think LEGO Minifigure fans will enjoy!

Check out previous build a Minifigure (BAM) releases below.

What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?

In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.

You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99. Most of LEGO’s Build a Minifigures have also now transitioned to sustainable cardboard boxes.

Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.

Q1 January 2025 LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters

Army Builders will be delighted to get more Lion Knights in Build-a-Minifigure stations! The BAM 2025 version has the standard Lion Knights soldier torso, and printed legs which is a nice little bonus, as previous Lion Knights had simple dual-moulded red and blue legs.

I did make a mistake with the shield that I picked out, as the BAM 2025 version should have the yellow lion on the red and blue shield, not the standard yellow background that I got!

Another great new minifigure is the Young Viking, who comes with a brand new and (so far) exclusive fur pelt torso, and a new recoloured dark orange shortsword! The torso is excellent for fans of medieval minifigures, and will also look great for those looking to customise Dungeons and Dragons-esque characters.

Plus, there’s also printing on the back if you weren’t sold on the Young Viking already! It’s one of my favourites from the BAM January 2025 series!

There’s a deluge of new and exciting minifigure torsos, and the Artist also joins in, getting a brand new and exclusive (so far) tan jacket, with splotches of paint all over, and a dirty cloth, and paintbrush stuffed into the pockets.

She also comes with the same slouched hat and hair combo that appeared with Pippin Reed from the LEGO Orient Express set, which is another great headgear to be found in Build-a-Minifigure stations.

Here’s a look at the new and exclusive printed tile, featuring the Artist’s incredible work! I really like the use of LEGO Flowers for the design, and just how vibrant this 2×3 tile looks.

Here’s a look at the back printing, which has some fabric lines.

Next up we have a Snake Lady, which commemorates the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Snake. Her entire outfit is new, and her magenta wig is also quite uncommon as it’s only appeared with Doey, from LEGO DreamZzz.

Her dress is a vibrant shade of pink, with some nice lotus flower details across both pieces, but I especially like her snake necklace which looks sensational. Speaking of snakes, she also introduces a recoloured LEGO Snake, which appears in teal for the first time ever!

Here’s a look at her alternate expression, and back printing. Really nice to see more of the lotus pattern extend all the way down her sloped dress, as well as some very realistic fabric creases, plus the back of her snake necklace. This is an outstanding minifigure design-wise and one of the must-haves from this series.

Another fun surprise is a Luchador Wrestler! We haven’t gotten a LEGO Luchador for quite some time, so I’m glad to see a Mexican Wrestler return as a LEGO Minifigure in 2025! The Luchador features an all-new torso and legs, and I really like the printed details on his face with the eyes and mouth cutouts, as well as the wrestling belt, and printed legs.

Here’s a look at the back print. I especially like the straps that hold the wrestler’s mask together!

LEGO Luchadors are quite rare, but this one is a lovely throwback to the Super Wrestler, from LEGO Minifigures Series 1, which was released 15 years ago! The similarities are quite uncanny, down to the Eagle on the Globe on his Championship Belt, suggesting that this is a very direct homage to one of the earliest Collectible Minifigures.

There was also a red Luchador included in a LEGO Movie set, 70809 Lord Business’ Evil Lair, but I didn’t have him on hand to join the photo as it’s deep in storage!

With Valentine’s Day coming up, we have a Valentine’s Boy, featuring a new torso with hearts and butterflies. Loverboy is also quite lovestruck, with rosy cheeks and a meek smile.

The only interesting elements are really the new torso, and single-sided head, so if you already have enough LEGO Teddies, feel free to pick a more interesting accessory.

Last but definitely not least is I think will be the most popular minifigure from the January 2025 BAM release- a Cheese Costume Fan! She comes with a LEGO Castle leather apron, and a rat accessory, but all eyes are on her wedge costume which is a large piece of cheese!

Here’s a look at her head.

The Cheese Costume is yet another Food-themed minifigure and is reminiscent of the Strawberry Shortcake and Chocolate Cake Minifigures, which also made their debut in Build-a-Minifigure.

If you have the money, you’ll definitely want at least 6 of these to complete a Cheese Wheel…

The January 2025 BAM release is an absolute winner in my eyes, and it seems like there’s been a step-change in the calibre and design of each minifigure. Other than the Lion Knight (which is really there for Army Builders), every character has a new and exclusive element or minifigure, making this a very potent series so far!

We’re definitely off to a strong start for LEGO Build-a-Minifigures, and if this is how we begin the year, I’m really excited to see what else is in store for 2025! I’m definitely on the lookout for the February 2025 release, and I hope to come across them soon, so hopefully it won’t be too long of a wait!

    loving that new cheese costume.

  2. Greg says:

I’ve got the Reddish Orange bricksuit. (Shame there is no matching legs). What are the other two additional ones?

  3. Ann says:

    Hi Jay,

Do you know what happened to the BAM figures on the bricksmegastore website? I am rural so am used to ordering them.

    Thank you

  4. Håkan says:

    @Shannon

Cochlear implants have occasionally appeared on various minifigs for some years, now.

  5. Simon Flannery says:

The Australian stores also have 3 extra BAMs at the moment. One is a dark orange brick costume. You would have seen them at the Doncaster store.

  6. Marek says:

Hello! Are these sold in packs with the regular series numbers? Can they be ordered online? I haven’t seen them in stores near me yet. Thanks!

  7. Katarzyna says:

I’ve been thinking about the banana too, it’s one of the new parts and it probably goes with the wrestler.

  8. Shannon says:

Isn’t that a cochlear implant on cheese wedge’s head? I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that on another minifig. Very cool.

  9. stello says:

The fantasy knights one would be great for army builders! without having to spend money on the big set or without having to wait for smaller parts. Lego is getting my $20!

  10. Nuclearxpotato says:

It’s a shame new prints from BAM never appear in mainline sets, I get they want to get people in stores for the exclusive figures but it never seems feasible for the core audience (how is a kid going to convince their parents to take them to a Lego store every three-four months so they can buy them both a new set and these figures?).

Also are they really only $10 USD? I thought they were also $20 which made them seem majorly overpriced (which wouldn’t make sense conversion-wise, but stranger things have happened).

  11. Chris says:

I believe as the wrestler has no hair the “official” 5th part is an extra accessory — a banana.
