Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Space May 2024

May 2024 is set to be a month celebrating all things Space (yes, Star Wars included) Space with the release of 10341 NASA Artemis Space Launch System and 31212 The Milky Way, and LEGO Build a Minifigure (BAM) is also getting in on the action!
There are 7 new minifigures to collect, including 3 Space-themed minifigures, which is good news for those looking to pick up and army build these next-generation Space astronauts!
These should be released worldwide from 1 May 2024, so next time you’re in a LEGO Store, be sure to check the BAM Stations out to see if these have arrived!

What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?
In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.
You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-pack blister packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99.
Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.
May 2024 Space Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters
Here’s a look at the 7 new official characters that make up the May 2024 Build-a-Minifigure selection.
We have a snazzy Alien Astronaut in the Build a Minifigure station featuring a green alien head, and a rubbery stalk headpiece to complete the look.
The torso is especially interesting, with a diagonal line running down the middle, and the Classic Space logo in the corner.
Here’s a look at the back printing.
Classic Space fans will immediately recognise the diagonal line as a nod to Space Police 1 and Futuron uniforms! It’s a really cool modern twist on these iconic uniforms, and something that Classic Space fans will enjoy.
We also get a female scientist, with green arms, denoting her rank/role in space.
I’m not 100% sure if this transparent panel is a new element, but it does look suitably spacey, and I like that the decorations are printed on it.
Here’s a look at the Scientists’ back printing and alternate face, which has a happy smile.
Last but not least, we have the pick of the bunch – a Space Ranger! He has a dark blue and gold colour scheme, and a gorgeous new piece of Armour that has the Classic Space logo printed in the middle.
Here’s a better look at the armour piece, which is something that Classic Space fans will want to pick up in large quantities to beef up your Classic Space security.
Here’s a look at the alternate face, and also the torso. The torso and legs are identical to the Scientists’ and I really like the level of detail on it. It looks suitably modern and the dark blue and gold really work nicely against the white base.
Highly recommend getting plenty of these armour pieces, as they’re more compelling than the Erlenmeyer Flask that comes with the scientist.
Moving on to more Terrestrial minifigures, we get a neat Cowboy minifigure. Cowboys have featured many times in Build a Minifigure stations, but this one has some really nice details such as prints on his legs, boots and even a cool belt buckle!
Oh, and there’s side leg printing too, which is something you don’t see very often with BAM minifigures!
Next we have a City Construction worker, a staple of LEGO City minifigures. The combination of orange and green fluorescent clothes is nice, and I really like the details printed on her pants!
Here’s a look at her back printing.
For those wanting interesting and unique accessories, the Double Bass player has you covered. He has a neat little goatee, and a formal tuxedo.
The highlight of course is this double bass/cello which will now appear in Build-a-Minifigure stations. It’s a really large element, and very well-designed, and a really cool LEGO musical instrument that you can add to your collection. Oh, the double bass player has a hearing aid too!
And last but not least, we have a policewoman! What, another Police minifigure? Boring! But wait.
If you look closely and stare at the Police Officer’s sunglasses, you’ll see the city’s silhouette reflected onto the sunglasses! It’s a very cool detail and incredibly well executed!
And that’s it for the 7 new characters found in the May 2024 BAM selection.
