Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Halloween 2023

We’re now in September, and Autumn has officially arrived in the Northern Hemisphere, with Halloween coming in two months.
Three new LEGO Minifigure characters have popped up in Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) worldwide, and these seem to be Halloween-themed which is perfect as we edge closer to spooky season.
Having only 3 Halloween-themed minifigures seems a little on the low side, especially when you compare it against BAM Q2 2022 which gave us a whopping 10 characters to collect.
I have a suspicion that LEGO is beginning to shift away from large quarterly drops to smaller monthly drops, but we’ll have to see if my theory rings true in the next few months. The smaller releases are more familiar to BAM releases pre-2021 where the selections were much smaller.
Let’s jump into a quick review of the new LEGO Halloween 2023 Build a Minifigure characters!
Check out previous build a Minifigure (BAM) releases below. I’m proud to say that this blog contains the most complete guide to all the LEGO Build a Minifigure releases as this is something I genuinely enjoy collecting and hunting for!
- LEGO Ninjago BAM (June 2023)
- BAM Q2 2023 (April 2023)
- BAM Q1 2023 (January 2023)
- BAM Q4 2022 (November 2022)
What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?

In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.

You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-pack blister packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99.
If you want to get your hands on these, check your local LEGO Store, or if you’re in Australia and can’t get to a LEGO Certified Store, you can order them from the LEGO Certified Store’s website.
Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.
Halloween 2023 Build-a-Minifigure characters

First up, we have a most festive Halloween character with a Jack O’ Lantern Costume minifigure which is a really great pick for a Halloween-themed drop.
He comes with an exclusive new torso, which has the design of a green pumpkin with a silhouette of the carved eyes and mouth, and Happy Halloween written on it.

The Jack O’Lantern helmet and lantern are not new accessories, and yes, the lantern is technically incomplete as regular lanterns typically have a trans-yellow round 1×1 brick in it.
There are no trans-yellow bricks in the official configuration and you won’t find them in Build a Minifigure stations, so you’ll have to make do with this lantern frame.
The male head with the goatee and hearing aid is a fairly new having first appeared in the Modular Jazz Club which released early this year, but it’s nice to have this variant available widely in BAM stations.

Here’sa look at the back printing.

Next we have a Party Cat, a fun saxophonist in a cat costume that looks like he’s ready to liven up any Halloween party. The Black Cat ears are a new recolour, having only appeared in an orange tiger stripe variant (coincidentally in the 2020 BAM Halloween release) and in the Cheetah minifigure.
The Elton John-esque star glasses minifigure head is fairly uncommon as it’s only appeared once in 40382 Birthday Cake and is a pretty fun and groovy option. I also really like the spotted shirt with a loose pink bowtie, although it’s a shame that the dot pattern didn’t extend to the arms.

Here’s a look at the back printing. Overall, it’s a pretty fun minifigure, great for Halloween party scenes, although I really would’ve liked some cat makeup on the minifigure’s head instead of the star glasses.

And last but not least, we have a Tree Costume minifigure! More suited for background theatre characters, but I guess it works in the context of Halloween too.
The Tree Trunk costume in medium nougat isn’t new, but was previously an exclusive part in 41714 Andrea’s Theatre School, so it’s nice to be able to get this in LEGO Build a Minifigure stations as it’s quite a large element and looks fun.

While the lime green watering can is a bit of a lackluster accessory, I really like the brown jumper torso, with wood grain pattern on it which looks fantastic, and was a nice surprise to find under the tree costume!

Oh and you can stack them all up together as well.

This is a pretty decent selection for Halloween with some interesting, if a little safe outfits and accessories to spice up the Build a Minifigure station selection.
I feel like previous Halloween BAM releases (especially 2022) were a bit more fun, but if you’re starting your collection of spooky Halloween minifigures, or planning a spooky MOC for October, this is a fun party-themed selection to add to it.
But you know, the kinda party where everyone’s costume is kinda lazy and derivative.
