Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Q3 2024 DreamZzz & Halloween

Here’s a look at the new Q3 2024 LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) selection which features 10 new characters to collect, split across Halloween and LEGO DreamZzz characters.

Yes, the photo only has 9 minifigures as I am missing Jayden from LEGO DreamZzz.

The huge draw that will set AFOL and Classic Space fan’s tongues wagging is Mr. Oz with his awesome new Dark Blue Classic Space torso. Always an exciting time when we get new Classic Space Astronaut colours!

These should be released worldwide from 1 September 2024, so next time you’re in a LEGO Store, be sure to check the BAM Stations out to see if these have arrived!

Let’s jump into a quick review of the new LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Q3 2024 DreamZzz and Halloween minifigures!

Check out previous build a Minifigure (BAM) releases below. I am still missing the previous release as unfortunately, Australia didn’t receive the complete release (some wigs were missing), so I hope to pick some up when I’m overseas in the next couple of weeks.

What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?

In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.

You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-pack blister packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99.

Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.

Q3 2024 LEGO DreamZzz Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters

LEGO DreamZzz is a big focus going into September, with store takeovers, and also the premiere of LEGO DreamZzz Season Two (Part 2), with 10 new episodes going live on 6 September 2024.

There are 7 LEGO DreamZzz characters to collect (sorry the photo only has 6 as one minifigure (Jayden) wasn’t available in my local store) which are Waking World versions of the LEGO DreamZzz characters.

For reference, this is what Jayden looks like, and it’s the same version as the one from 71458 Crocodile Car, 40657 Dream Village, 71454 Mateo and Z-Blob the Robot, and 71475 Mr. Oz’s Space Car.

Mr. Oz (Waking World)

The big and I mean, astronomical drawcard of the LEGO DreamZzz Build-a-Minifigure series is hands down Mr. Oz, the eccentric science teacher who moonlights as the leader of the Brooklyn Dream Bureau. The silver fox is a fan of the classics, and he comes with an all-new Dark Blue Classic Space torso which is going to be highly sought-after by Classic Space fans.

Any new colour being introduced for Classic Space Astronauts is always a time for celebration, and in a year where Space has been a big focus for LEGO, it only feels right to have a new colour make its debut in Build-a-Minifigure stations.

Mr. Oz comes with his wild hair and beard combo, which has his spectacled eyes peeking out from a gap. I’d love this hairpiece to make an appearance in white as an alternative for Santa Claus, so hopefully LEGO are seeing the potential here!

Here’s a look at his face underneath his beard.

His legs are also quite useful, with a pair of dark blue denim jeans and a brown belt, which matches the shade of his Classic Space torso, but is also generic enough to be used for a contemporary look.

That said, we’re all here for the Dark Blue Classic Space torso, and this piece alone will be a prime target for army building for Classic Space fans, so I expect this to be very popular.

Of course we don’t have dark blue oxygen tanks, or a Classic Space helmet, but you can make do with these modern helmets in Dark Blue from the BAM May 2024 Space minifigures which may still be in BAM stations for a more orthodox look.

There should also be plain dark blue legs, and if you’d like, you can swap the yellow minifigure hands with the dark blue hands found in the BAM May 2024 Space minifigures!

Until LEGO releases a proper Classic Space helmet, you can also make do with a Dark Blue Motorcycle helmet. These are relatively rare as they only appeared in the Knights Kingdom theme, and with the debut of this new Dark Blue Classic Space torso, have been snapped up by the dozen that their prices skyrocketed overnight on Bricklink.

Mateo (Waking World)

Here’s Mateo, one of the main protagonists of LEGO DreamZzz in his waking world form, which we’ve never gotten in the DreamZzz sets as all the minifigures and settings are based on their Dream World appearances.

He has his trademark white birthmark across his eye, dreadlock-style hair and a blue hoodie, grey trousers and a trendy pair of red hightop sneakers. For an accessory, he comes with a tiny little Z-Blob, with cute eyes printed on a lightbulb element.

Here’s a look at his back printing and alternate head.

In the Build-a-Minifigure stations, you’ll also find the new Blue Puffer Jacket element, which in my opinion, is a much more compelling accessory than the tiny Z-Blob especially as it’s a brand new minifigure accessory introduced in the new August 2024 DreamZzz sets.

Izzie (Waking World)

Next we have the exuberant Izzie, Mateo’s younger sister. In the Dreamworld, she transforms into an absolute fearless badass, with a love of stuffed animals. One of her best-known dreamcrafting creations is Bunchu the Bunny, which draws inspiration from her stuffed bunny, and her pyjamas which also features the cheeky blue bunny.

The minifigure is pretty decent, and for fans of LEGO DreamZzz, it’s a nice bonus to get her waking world outfit, and also get a variant of Izzie with her regular hair.

Personally, I think it’s a much better choice to choose her Dream World hair, in that gorgeous pearlescent shade. Thankfully, I found plenty of these awesome wigs in the BAM stations, so I highly recommend going for this one instead of her regular brown wig.

Zoey (Waking World)

Next we have Zoey in her Waking World form, featuring an exclusive new torso and printed legs. Like her Dream World counterpart, Zoey is effortlessly cool with a grey leather jacket, and an own necklace, plus a grey kitten as her designated accessory.

Here’s a look at her alternate face, and back printing, which also has that owl motif. The cat and owl combo explains her affinity with Zian, a dream creature that’s a cross between a Cat and Owl.

Nova (Waking World)

Next we have Nova, one of the poor kids in school that’s terrorised by bad dreams and the Nightmare King. These poor kids have been tormented so much that they formed a club called the Insomniacs, and Nova is their leader.

This is the exact Nova minifigure as the one from 71457 Pegasus Flying Horse and 71469 Nightmare Shark Ship, so there’s nothing particularly special about this variant of Nova, but her sloth pyjama torsos are quite cute.

Here’s Nova’s alternate sleeping face and back printing.

Cooper (Waking World)

Next we have Cooper, another one of the main characters of LEGO DreamZzz. He’s car-obsessed and it shows with his red hoodie with a checkered flag design. It’s the same version of Cooper as the one from 71455 Grimkeeper the Cage Monster, so there’s nothing particularly special with Cooper here.

His circular saw is a relatively uncommon accessory, and it’s nice to see it pop up in BAM stations.

And here’s his back printing and alternate sleeping face.

2024 Halloween BAM Minifigures

September is the start of spooky season with Autumn setting into the Northern Hemisphere and with it, we also get 3 new Halloween-themed Build-a-Minifigures for 2024. These all have new and exclusive components and look spooktacular and I think a must-have for BAM fans.

Fiery Ghost

First up we have this awesome looking Fiery Ghost spirit. He comes with a brand new and exclusive torso, which has a skull engulfed in smoke with fire in its eyes which looks really cool. The spectral ghost legs are also quite rare, so it’s nice to see them pop up in Build A Minifigure, and it gives him a smoky effect.

His purple mohawk is a new recolour, and his head is quite an interesting element as it was last used for Golden Dragon Cole from LEGO Ninjago, but the molten lava head really works in this context. His Jack O’Lantern is always a super useful accessory to have for Halloween as well.

This Fiery Ghost is one of the best Halloween-themed Build-a-Minifigures we’ve seen in a long time and you should definitely prioritise hunting this one down.

Skeleton Hoodie Costume Fan

Next we have a girl in a skeleton costume. She also has a new and exclusive torso and legs, which have a skeleton motif on them. Her hoodie in particular is really well-designed with the ribcage printed on, but there’s also a zipper in the middle.

Here’s her back printing, has a hood and looks awesome. It’s a contemporary take on a typical Halloween costume and the execution is spot on, making this yet another minifigure I’d recommend hunting down.

Wicked Witch

Next we have another LEGO BAM Witch. Witches are a staple of Build-a-Minifigure releases around Halloween but this one is a completely new variant, with a tattered apron and some cool details such as frogs and herbs popping out of her pocket.

She has a sallow green face with some nice texture lines for her face, as well a Witch’s Hat with tan hair that we’ve seen before in LEGO Harry Potter sets.

Here’s a look at her back printing, which has lovely details that extend all the way down her skirt piece.

Too bad Izzie didn’t get sneakers. And I also wonder why her hairpiece is so dark (looks black almost). But over all, cool bam selection.

    Hi Pamela
I was in the City store on Tuesday and they had a bunch of Dreamzz BAM sets made up ready to put out. I also got the 3 new Halloween minifigs. They weren’t out either but the girl in the custom minifig fig got the box with all the new parts out for me and another guy to build our own sets. I didn’t see the cleaver for the skeleton so she just got a brown teddy.

I didn’t buy the Dreamzzz ones (the week before payday) but will probably go to Charlestown to see what they have or go back to the city store next Tuesday

At my Lego store I was told the blue Mohawk is a male alternative for the hooded skeleton; it made more sense than a punk fiery ghost, but now I like the punk ghost more ^_^

After reading this review, I went back to my local LEGO store in Sydney to look for the puffer jacket and Izzie’s Dream World pearlescent hair pieces that you found at your local store, as I assumed I must have missed seeing them due to my focus on finding all of the pieces to make up all of the minifigures in this release. Turns out there weren’t any of these pieces in the BAM station there, and the sales assistant I spoke to there confirmed that they hadn’t received any of them with the minifigure parts they were sent. Is it possible that they were something LEGO sent out to your store in place of the missing Jaden minifigure, which my store did receive?

A dark blue Classic Space torso?! Well, TLG, you have established yet another way to pull me into a LEGO Store.

  6. Ninjagofan217 says:

Skeleton Hoodie Costume Fan is just sora from Lego Ninjago Halloween costume lol🤣

  7. Prequelfan says:

I love the fire ghost good for an anakin gets roasted Moc lol

  8. Scott says:

My local store (au) had most of the dreamz components but none of the Halloween ones (bar that pink hairpiece that was a leftover from the Ninjago mini figs a few seasons ago.)
Staff had no idea if or when they would be available.

  9. Håkan says:

I guess I’ll try to get over soon and pick up the dark blue space torso. I wonder whether I have some of the old dark blue motorcycle helmets in my old bulk. Hopefully there might appear some in later sets, otherwise. (An overall F-1 racing theme is rumored for next year, which hopefully could lead to a bunch of new, unprinted helmets ending up on Lego Pick-A-Brick.)

I’m contemplating on the witch, as well, even if I have loose plans on collecting up parts for Marvel civilians, so some other torsos and pants might be better choices…

Thank you for the BAM news!
