LEGO City Advent Calendar 2024 Daily Countdown

Hello and welcome to the Jay’s Brick Blog daily countdown of the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar!

I had a terrific time with the LEGO City Advent Calendar last year, so I decided it was time to countdown the City calendar again this year!

Join in as we count down the days till Christmas with daily updates in this post!is year, I’ll be counting down all 6 LEGO Advent Calendars – Star Wars, Harry Potter, Friends, City Disney and Spider-Man.

You can check out each countdown here

Special thanks to LEGO for sending this set for review.

How does the daily advent calendar countdown work?

If you’re new here, I post daily updates on each window of the 2024 City Advent Calendar. I usually post updates in the morning (in Australia), but sometimes if things get too busy, updates will be posted in the evening. I’ll update this post each day, as I don’t really enjoy the practice of creating new posts for each day as it keeps it so much cleaner, so bookmark this post to come back every day!

Unlike other sites, I’m actually opening each window as I go, and I’ve been able to be relatively spoiler-free to be as surprised as I can get. All reviews, thoughts and reactions are live as we go along, there are no pre-planned photos or thoughts, unless I happen to be travelling or away from home.

Do note that I’m based in Melbourne, Australia (GMT +11) so we’re ahead of most of the world (except New Zealand) so to avoid spoilers, try to come back to this post after you’ve opened your window and built the daily model especially if you’re located in other time zones.

PS: If you’re planning to buy any LEGO for Christmas and would like to support the work I do blog, please use these affiliate links if you’re shopping on AmazonAmazon Australia or LEGO.com!

I receive a small commission if you purchase something, which helps support the work I do on the blog!

To make it easier for you to check out each day’s section, as this post is going to grow longer with every new window, all you have to do is click on the Day you want, and you will instantly jump to the corresponding section.

While you’re here, please also subscribe to the blog if you’d like to find out about other posts which cover LEGO news, reviews and random musings!

To follow along, it’s best to bookmark this post to check back each day. You can also find a link to this post from the home page via a link in the top navigation bar. If you’re on mobile, you have to expand the burger menu (the button with the 3 lines) to find it.

Like all advent calendars, the flap of the calendars fold out, to form a little playmat of sorts where the little daily mini builds and characters can be displayed.

This year’s has a sleepy neighbourhood with roofs and driveways covered in snow, plus the insides of a house depicted on the front flap.

You count upwards from 1 to 24, so don’t make the mistake of going backwards!

As always, the instructions are found on the inside of each window flap, so be gentle when opening them as you’ll need to sometimes refer to them for slightly more complicated builds!

Without wasting any time, let’s get started with the 2024 City Advent Calendar countdown!

Day 1

We start off Day 1 of the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar strongly with a Snowboarder minifigure! We get a young child with short legs riding a yellow snowboard.

The snowboarder comes with an option of a helmet with snow goggles, or a black wig which you can interchange, but the most interesting bit is the exclusive Christmas sweater which has some bulldozers printed and a crane’s lifting hook on it! Very LEGO City!

On the back is a Christmas tree. You normally expect festive builds or minifigures like this closer to the end of the Advent Calendars, so getting a Christmas sweater minifigure on Day 1 feels like the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar is making a really strong statement!

Check back in tomorrow to see what we’ll get in Day 2!

Day 2

On Day 2 of the 2024 City Advent Calendar, we get a really great build – a Toy Driller! It looks fantastic, was a fun little build and I really like the little details such as the drill on the tip, as well as the orange hazard light on the cab.

The articulation on this is great too and younger builders will have a lot of fun with it.

A great looking build for Day 2, and makes me excited to see what we get tomorrow for Day 3!

Day 3

I am SO impressed by the LEGO City Advent Calendar and it’s only Day 3. We get an adorable Golden Retriever wearing a festive Christmas sweater, plus a bowl and bone!

The dog’s Christmas sweater is just adorable, with a Christmas tree printed on both sides, and I’m finding it unbelievable that we’re only 3 days in and we’ve already gotten two windows with festive Christmas references!

Ohh to a really strong start, but can LEGO City keep up the momentum going into Day 4? Check back tomorrow to find out!

Day 4

Day 4 is pretty simple with yet another toy for the boy – a skateboard and a helmet!

He clearly is a fan of extreme sports as he now has a skateboard to go along with his snowboard.

Come back tomorrow to see what Day 5 gives us in the City Advent Calendar!

Day 5

The 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar continues to go from strength to strength on Day 5 we get a girl on a pair of skis! She’s also sporting another festive Christmas sweater with a knitted Christmas Tree and Snowflakes on the front.

Here’s the back printing.

The 2024 City Advent Calendar is leading the pack so far, with an incredible run of 5 great days. It’s really impressive that 3 out of 5 days have featured new and exclusive wintery prints.

Surely the Advent Calendar can’t maintain the momentum, or can it? Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 6!

Day 6

On Day 6 of the City Advent Calendar, we get another toy, a Remote Controlled Sailboat. It uses a walkie talkie element for the controller, which I guess makes sense as it has a super long antennae. The Sailboat is well designed, and I like the use of the triangular tile for the sail.

Not a shabby entry and something you’d expect from a City Advent Calendar. Check back tomorrow to see what Day 7 brings!

Day 7

We get a simple kitten on Day 7 of the City Advent Calendar. She has plenty to eat with a brown bowl and a fish as well.

Can’t complain about getting more animals, and for fans who don’t own a cute LEGO kitten, this is a fun addition! Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 8!

Day 8

We’re hitting a bit of a lull with the LEGO City Advent Calendar with Day 8’s Scooter. It’s a nice element to have and is fun for the minifigures to interact with, but there’s been a clear lack of “builds” in this calendar which is really beginning to feel evident.

Also this is the THIRD build that contains a helmet after the one with the snowboard and skateboard. I guess head protection and safety is a key theme in this year’s City Advent Calendar??

I do like that both minifigures can ride it at the same time, but I sure hope there’s a proper build tomorrow! Come back to see what we get on Day 9!

Day 9

The non-builds continue! On Day 9 we get yet another minifigure in a festive Christmas sweater, a man clutching a mug of warm hot cocoa, complete with plenty of foam/whipped cream! He has some snowshoes on, plus a cool newsboy cap which is a nice accessory.

I sure hope they’re just frontending all the characters early on in the City Advent Calendar so we can get into a bonanza of builds towards the end, but it sure does feel very odd that this year’s Advent Calendar’s pacing is so bereft of actual builds!

Come back tomorrow to see what Day 10 brings!

Day 10

Finally a build! We get another remote controlled toy on Day 10 of the City Advent Calendar, with an RC Firetruck. The build is quite simple, but in scale with the RC Sailboat, suggesting a theme here with these RC toys.

It’s a tidy little build, but I hope we get more of these as I’m sure if you’re like me, you’re itching for some more mini City builds! Come back to see what we get on Day 11 tomorrow!

Day 11

So it’s not an interesting build… but it’s hard to not get a little excited by the adorable Baby in a Christmas Sweater that we get on Day 11!

The LEGO baby appears in a dark green body for the first time ever, and there’s even a Christmas Tree printed on it. Come to think of it… it might not be a sweater, but a onesie instead!

And that’s it for Day 11! Looks like we have the makings of a big family so far, we’re just missing a mum! I have to say, I’m really digging the matching Christmas attire now that you can see them all together! Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 12!

Day 12

Still not a build, but Day 12’s Baby Stroller is a fantastic new element to complement yesterday’s adorable baby! This is a relatively new element, and so far, this Dark Azure version has only shown up once in 60407 Double-Decker Sightseeing Bus, so many LEGO fans probably wouldn’t have this very practical and cool accessory in their collections!

The baby fits in perfectly and snugly into the stroller, and just looks super cute.

While it isn’t a build… it’s hard to get upset when you get a relatively uncommon new LEGO element, so overall, I’m quite happy with it! Check back tomorrow to see what Day 13 brings as we officially kick off the 2nd half of the City Advent Calendar!

Day 13

Another minifigure joins us on Day 13! It looks like LEGO are rushing to get all the family members out, as we get the mum with her ice skates and a speckled cookie/cake. We do get a scarf with her, as well as a bonus extra which is very nice.

The real highlight however is her Christmas sweater, which has some helicopters and a Christmas tree on the back. I can’t recall getting so many exclusive festive torsos in a City Advent Calendar, so this has been a really pleasant surprise!

That HAS to be it for the family right? How many kids can this couple have?? Here’s hoping that we’re done with minifigures for awhile (can’t believe I’m saying it for an Advent Calendar!), and we get some proper builds in the next few days! Come back to see what we get on Day 14!

Day 14

The remote controlled toys continue with Day 14’s RC Helicopter! The build is quite simple, yet effective and I like the colours which suggests that this is a Police Helicopter.

At least this one’s a build, even if it’s super simple! Check back tomorrow to see what Day 15 brings!

Day 15

Is this year’s LEGO City Advent Calendar some kind of sick joke? On Day 15 we get one Stuffed Bunny. That’s it. It was honestly a shock to open the window and see this plastic bag containing one single Stuffed Bunny.

I’m sorry but one minifigure accessory does not deserve one entire window devoted to it. Did the Design Team blow their entire budget on printing the Christmas sweaters on minifigures, dogs, and even a baby???

Also, LEGO is heavily spruiking their transition away from single-use plastic packaging and commitment to reduce waste… but what message does this send to simply pack one LEGO stuffed bunny in a bag, that will have to be disposed off in a landfill.

This is probably the worst window yet of all 2024 LEGO Advent Calendars, and makes Spider-Man’s Day 2 full of Webbing Accessory look good! Utterly ridiculous day and I hope Day 16 gives us something better.

Just look at the image of all the City windows so far. Hardly any large builds or models, and now we get one single Stuffed Bunny to add insult to injury.

Day 16

As we’re all still reeling from the dumpster fire that was yesterday’s bunny, at least Day 16 gives us a great build with a tidy little Snowmobile. The design is really good, with nice colours, and I like the use of the Technic liftarms for the tracks at the back, plus snowshoes for the skis.

A much better build for today, but I’m wondering if there’s still time to salvage the 2024 City Advent Calendar with the last 8 builds! Come back tomorrow to see what we get!

Day 17

I think at this stage, we’re all resigned to the fact that this is largely a minifigure-themed LEGO City Advent Calendar, and Day 17’s Mrs Claus certainly proves it! That said, there’s a lot to like about this brand new Mrs Claus minifigure as she boasts an exclusive torso and printed skirt piece that’s exclusive to this Advent Calendar!

Here’s her alternate face and a look at the back printing.

She also has a little notebook with a checklist. Perhaps a series of tasks that she has to remind Mrs Claus to complete before the 25th?

This has definitely been a fantastic City Advent Calendar for LEGO Minifigure collectors and enthusiasts – I can’t recall the last time I’ve seen so many exclusive minifigures in a City Advent Calendar in such a long time, which is great in itself, but for those that prefer mini builds, this year’s Advent Calendar has been severely lacking in that department! Check back tomorrow to see what Day 18 brings!

Day 18

Hurray for some LEGO building! On Day 18 we get a small Reindeer and Sleigh. I do like the Reindeer’s cute little design, and how its attached to the sleigh.

While its a cute build, there’s a real missed opportunity to make it fit the baby! It would’ve been such a great thing if the baby could actually ride the sleigh! Come back tomorrow to see what we on Day 19! Maybe another minifigure??

Day 19

On Day 19 we get a staple of LEGO City Advent Calendars, a Snowman! This one has a top hat, a red scarf and uses the new brown flower stalk element for great effect.

The Snowman is kind of a minifigure, which follows the theme of the Advent Calendar. Will we get another minifigure tomorrow? Come back to see what Day 20 brings us! I’ll be honest, it’s a slog to the finish line for this particular Advent Calendar…

Day 20

Here’s Day 20’s Christmas Tree, a staple of LEGO Advent Calendars! Unfortunately, I had issues with the photos I took, so I had to use an official image for today.

At least it’s not a minifigure, although I would welcome a Christmas Tree costume minifigure with open arms!

That’s it for Day 20! Only 4 days remain of the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar and we’re nearing the end!

Day 21

On Day 21 we get a pretty cute Toy Soldier. It’s not exactly a minifigure, but the proportions are pretty close, especially since it uses a plain minifigure head, hat, and cutlass.

More pseudo minifigures in a minifigure-heavy advent calendar! Check back in to see what we get on Day 22, with only 3 days left to go!

Day 22

We get a non-RC toy for Day 22 with this attractive Toy Train! This is probably one of the best builds so far in this Advent Calendar, with a very attractive colour scheme, and I like the use of the Popcorn element for the smoke.

You can pop the Baby and Kitten on the train which is pretty cute! Come back tomorrow to see what the second last day of the City Advent Calendar will give us!

Day 23

It’s the second last window and on Day 23 we get a Sled! I really like the design here, and I laud the designers for using Uruk Hai swords for the Sled design! Who knew Uruk Hai swords could find their place in a City set!

That’s it for Day 23! No surprises on what we’ll get for the finale of the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar, but come back tomorrow for a wrapup of this year’s very divisive City Advent Calendar!

Hope you’re all ready to celebrate Christmas Eve with family, loved ones and plenty of yummy food!

Day 24

On Day 24, we conclude the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar with a Santa Claus minifigure! This is one of the best LEGO Santa Claus minifigures thanks to his dual-moulded legs with the black boots.

His face, which also has a printed Beard makes the Beard Accessory optional.

Final Thoughts

And that’s it for the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar. This has been the most divisive LEGO City Advent Calendars I can remember in recent times, and I think you’ll either love the huge selection of exclusive minifigures, or hate the relatively weak and minor builds scattered throughout.

Minifigure fans will definitely enjoy the extremely generous lineup, with all the different Christmas sweaters, even on the baby and dog! Mrs Claus is also the most perfect addition, and a great partner to the stock standard Santa Claus minifigure.

But ultimately, it did feel like all the “budget” in this Advent Calendar went to the Minifigure department, primarily printing all these new Christmas Sweater torsos that the other builds just feel like they’ve suffered in general.

While its fun for minifigure collectors, the actual building and day to day experience wasn’t the best, and I’d prefer going back to more substantial builds than just a minifigure-palooza.

And that concludes the 2024 LEGO City Advent Calendar countdown! I hope you’ve enjoyed following along, whether its your first time here, or you’ve been following my other LEGO Advent Calendar countdowns for years!

Thank you so much to everyone that’s been active in the comments section, and I hope you have a very magical Christmas and a Happy New Year!

  1. Zac says:

I am definitely a minifigure guy so this Calendar scratched my itch decently. That said I’d love to see a little more creativity in these. Do one with a Christmas Carol theme or a Nutcracker theme, give me some Icelandic Yule Lads if you want to get really crazy. 🙂 I know that’s asking for a lot but it’d be very cool.

  2. SaCul says:

The past few days have all be great builds! I’m starting to think pacing was this calendars weak point. Had they spread out the sweater minifigs a bit more between these builds I probably would have enjoyed the whole month a bit more.(Although no saving the single rabbit in one day. Both this years friends calendar, and last years Marvel had that same rabbit along side extra stuff, so Lego had no excuse)

  3. Jana W says:

I substituted a clown head on my toy soldier – looks much better.

  4. SaCul says:

I like minifigs as much as the next guy, but I feel like they might have tried to bite off more then they could chew with a family of 5 and pets. Personally, would have preferred maybe1 less family member/pet and just a few more holiday builds. These last 3 days have been hitting it out of the park though!

  5. Sue says:

I enjoy the blog. I am a little grateful that the calendar is so simple this year because every time my 2 year old grandson comes over (weekly), he takes everything apart. There’s more to it than you realize when you have to reassemble it all. 😜

  6. Jana W says:

@Emma – You can get 3×4 minifigure stands in white. My Christmas village is on a snow blanket and that’s how I keep all the minifigures from falling over.

  7. Emma says:

Mrs Claus falls over when she’s reading, unless she’s riding the skidoo or pushing the baby at the same time (or accidentally puts her skirt on backwards)

  8. M Halliday says:

The snowman head could have had three black dots as nose and eyes. It is much improved, and would cost very little to do.

  9. Håkan says:

I guess the baby can ride the sleigh if you replace the panel with a jumper plate. Would necessitate rebuilding or losing the back support, though.

  10. Zach says:

I really wish the play mat areas linked up year to year.
I think that would be a small, but very nice, touch.

  11. Eddie says:

This is what I look forward to every Christmas season. There will be some horrible window, or set of repetitive windows and Jay will voice what we’re all thinking. It’s always great when it happens. Thanks, single-stuffed-bunny, you were a terrible window, but you gave us one heck of a blog post.

  12. T says:

In reply to Andrew (also having trouble with reply button on mobile and tablet) – You are right, there are 24 bags in the Home Alone set. I doubt I’ll ever be in a position to spend that amount of money at once on lego but there is no way the number of bags was a coincidence.

  13. Andrew says:

In reply to T below (I tried the reply button to that post but my phone is struggling to load all 23(!)display ads in this post as well as a banner ad at the bottom) I think Home Alone has 24 bags. Seems too coincidental to be a coincidence ;).

  14. Rosie says:

I think we’re only going to get 6 actual builds from the remaining 8 days.

The 24th is always Santa Claus. Mrs. Claus features heavily on the packaging, which makes her very likely. It’s possible they’ll share a window. But, given everything else about this calendar, I highly doubt it.

    I hope I’m wrong.

(Why didn’t they put a build for a wrapped present in with the bunny? The simplest version is 3 pieces!)

  15. Professor Death says:

This is the first advent calendar I’ve ever gotten and I like the family’s matching Christmas jumpers. The builds are really lacking though 🙁
Like others have suggested they should’ve combined various days together.
A single toy bunny-while I like it-is a really lame. Hopefully the rest of the day’s will pick up.

  16. T says:

I’d have to say this Advent is the worst Lego Advent Calendar I’ve ever had. The bunny in the bag on its own was completely disgusting (bunny cute, one thing with nothing to build is what was disgusting).

The biggest build we’ve had was 8 pieces and that was the mum on Day 13.

    I started off getting the Star Wars ones in 2015 ;
but found they weren’t that Christmassy so got a Marvel one one year then switched to the City ones. I got the City & Friends ones last year. This year I got the City one (& am getting a non-lego building one arriving today so that’ll be an interesting comparison). I think this will be my last City one unless they increase the piece count. I’d be more inclined to pick the one with the most pieces (that isn’t Star Wars or Harry Potter) from now on.

To be honest with you I would love it if lego could give us one whole set that’s divided into 24 chunks so there’s less bitty builds (or give us a baseplate to put all the days builds & figures onto).

  17. Emma says:

    Agree the bunny is pants:(
Like others, not sure we’ll get it again- and glad that it was on offer when we bought it.

  18. Andrew says:

The three animals should have been in the same bag. The baby and stroller likewise. Day 2’s drill was brilliant, but yesterday’s bunny hit the lowest point I’ve seen in ten years of Lego Advent. I think this’ll be my last. A contender for the poorest value Lego set I’ve seen.

  19. SaCul says:

    @Jana W @Håkan

    At least it’s a match.

My question is, Who gets the RC boat? That one doesn’t match ANY of the sweaters.(My tinfoil hat theory is the girl was supposed to get a matching sweater with the boat on it in another color. but budget ran out so they just used another green)

  20. Håkan says:

    @Jana W

The calendar might be half-arsed, but the family’s still Full RC!

  21. Jana W says:

And the baby and the stroller could have been one window too! I’m a minifigure addict, and I love the ones we’re getting, but the rest of this calendar is way worse than last year. I am not optimistic – you can expect two of the days will be Santa and Mrs Claus minifigs.

Also, who is the toy helicopter for? “Mom” has the helicopter sweater – why is she getting a toy?

  22. SaCul says:

Even the cat had a bowl and a fish along side it. A single rabbit’s just insulting.

  23. Mike says:

I’ve been cutting this calendar some slack for the weak builds because of the great minifigs that are the reason I bought it, but today’s bunny is the Dr Strange’s cape of this year’s calendars.
Hopefully the designers haven’t just run out of budget and interest or the next nine days are going to be a long slog to Christmas Eve. 😜

  24. SaCul says:

    Another sweater, more questions.
Why is green the only sweater to have 1 unique print/pattern on the front on the front vs the other sweaters 2? Why is the green sweater sharing colors with the dog and baby? Does it matter? Probably not. but it’s bugging me.

  25. Håkan says:

    @SaCul

Maybe the girl is more inte outdoors skiing and riding than RC toys.

(Winter climate tends to favor a completely different kind of “scooter”, though…)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowmobile

  26. SaCul says:

I’m probably over thinking it, but I’m still trying to figure out the theme behind the sweaters. They all have that matching tree, But the other side seems to be related to another days builds. So the construction truck for the boy, the Fire truck for the Dad and the outdoorsy snowboard/scooter/skateboard for the girl. I’ll admit the girl having 2 trees(and the same color as the dog and baby) are throwing me off a bit.

  27. Andrew says:

To be honest, a little underwhelming this year. I do like the Christmas jumper prints, but there’s precious little building so far, and the dog and cat could have easily been in the same window – that’s pretty cheap of Lego IMHO.

Last year’s City Advent had 250 pieces, this one 192. Shrinkflation, and it shows.

  28. SaCul says:

This years calendar almost feels like one of those seasonal VIP packs. It’s great for extra accessories for an existing scene/winter village, but as a stand alone feels a bit lacking.

  29. T says:

I have to say I’m disappointed with the lack of actual building that we’ve had so far in this year’s calendar.

  30. Prequelfan says:

guess what jay? I FOUND DAY 5’S MINIFIGURE IN A PARKING LOT

  31. Dustin says:

Day 5 girl has no helmet? Very dangerous!

  32. Jana W says:

Loving this year’s calendar so far! The dog and its festive sweater are adorable!! Can’t wait to see what we get tomorrow.

  33. James Wynne says:

I like this. It’s not a “boring” “bit” of this year’s Advent calendar

  34. Håkan says:

    @Stephen

I think that’s just supposed to be a synonym for “hairpiece”.

And that toy driller is probably supposed to belong to the snowboarder, as his Christmas Sweater alludes to him being a fan of toy construction (as well as construction toys?)…

  35. Jeff says:

Thank you for your site! This is our first year getting our son a Lego advent calendar and were completely lost this morning as to what it was, but your site saved the day. I’m sure we will be back over the next 23 days.

  36. Stephen says:

Hi Jay, just to let you know, the snowborder doesn’t come with a wig – that’s his hair.
