Review: 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama (gift with purchase)

A new year brings us a brand new premium quarterly LEGO Gift With Purchase, and to start 2025 off, we have 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama, the first of 4 mini dioramas that are designed to celebrate the wonders of travel and nature.
- 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama GWP when you spend US$150 / AU$245 / £135 / €150 or more on LEGO.com for Insider Members!
Concurrently running alongside the Double Insider Points offer from 8-12 February 2025, it’s a positive sign to see LEGO drop the purchase threshold slightly, compared to the Houses of the World (2023), and Micro Store Collection (2024), which were also quarterly releases.
LEGO were kind enough to send across a set for review, so here’s a quick look at 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama! You have one more day to take advantage of this GWP, plus Double Insider Points on all sets as the promotion ends on 12 February 2025. That said, 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama is still in stock worldwide, so I have a feeling the availability will be extended, or it will come back again soon.

This 299-piece set comes with 4 numbered paper bags in the box, and the build is fairly linear, with Bag 1 getting started with the base, Bag 2 adding the Waterfall, and Bags 3 and 4 finishing the build off with vegetation and other bits of nature.
If you enjoy building at a microscale like I do, you’ll appreciate the tiny bits of detail that went into the set’s design.

Here’s the completed model of 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama which depicts a lush tropical rainforest. The composition is quite busy, but still manages to remain quite balanced, with several points of interest such as the waterfall to give the diorama some height, and a sapphire blue stream that cuts through the middle.

As you’re building at a microscale, there are limitations to how complex the vegetation can be built, but the generous helping of different-coloured fern elements for trees, as well as clever techniques such as bending the trunks to give it a more dynamic look do help in creating plenty of visual pops of interest throughout.
I especially like the Anthurium scattered by the edges of the river.

The waterfall also looks great, injecting a dazzling trans-blue effect to split up the diorama which otherwise would be overpowered by greenery.

\It wouldn’t be a Tropical Rainforest without some little critters, and we get a classic Green LEGO Frog, and a gorgeous printed butterfly, which first made its debut in the LEGO Friends 41757 Botanical Garden.

There’s also a simple blue and yellow bird, which is most likely a Parrot or Hyacinth Macaw flying above the river, angled in a way that makes it look like its diving, giving the set a bit of movement and dynamism.

Final Thoughts: Overall, I like 40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama as a gift with purchase, but don’t like it enough to recommend you rush out and spend US$150 / AU$245 / £135 on LEGO unless you have a big purchase already planned.
I do like that the availability of this GWP coincided with a 2x Insider Points event, so you can maximise your purchase, but keep in mind that this is the first of four in the collection, with a new “Natural Wonders of the World” diorama releasing each quarter, so if this is something that you’re interested in collecting, you’re going to have to be quite disciplined with the timing of your 2025 LEGO purchases.
I like microscale builds, and I think the diorama format really shines here, and I’m interested to see what the other 3 in the collection will look like. I really hope we get some really diverse landscapes that celebrate the natural world – I think a Coral Reef would look really cool if done right!
I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the series looks like, but all in all, this is quite a nice GWP that’s a decent reward IF you have something on your purchase list to take advantage of 2x Insider Points.
40782 Tropical Rainforest Diorama and Double Insider Points offer are available concurrently from 8-12 February 2025.
What do you think of the Tropical Rainforest Diorama? What other landscapes would you like to see in this series?
