Review: LEGO 5009015 Cerebro (X-Mansion GWP)

Here’s a quick look at the LEGO Cerebro GWP (gift with purchase), which will launch alongside the 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion on 1 November 2024 for LEGO Insiders.

It’s an exclusive GWP that you can only get with purchases of the 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion from 1-7 November 2024, while stocks last. Like with all LEGO GWPs with the yellow box packaging, these are tend to be produced in limited quantities, so I wouldn’t be surprised if these sell out incredibly quickly.

See below for regional pricing and product page links for the X-Mansion:

Special thanks to LEGO for sending this set over for review.

If you’re new to these Yellow Box GWPs, the instruction manuals double as the front of box design, and the elements are packed in a nondescript ziplock bag, which isn’t factory-sealed. These are produced in limited numbers largely because they’re manually packed, and not produced on LEGO’s highly automated production lines.

One of the big surprises of the set, which might turn this into a must-buy is that the decorations in this set are all printed such as this Cerebro brick.

For X-Men fans disappointed by Jubilee’s absence in the X-Mansion, there’s a small consolation in this set, a printed screen featuring Jubilee as a minifigure!

Here’s a look at the completed model, which is a lot larger than I had expected. It’s more of a standalone diorama display piece rather than an add-on to the X-Mansion, featuring Cerebro, the device used by Professor X to magnify his psionic powers to locate mutants.

Many X-Men fans have been decrying Jubilee’s missing minifigure in the set, so I think it’s a bit of a cruel joke that even LEGO Professor X is doing his best to locate her using Cerebro!

Unlike the tiny Cerebro in the X-Mansion set, this one featured a proper chamber, or at least half of it, along with a pedestal for Charles to wheel himself onto.

The door opens to it, which is a neat feature that gives the set a bit of dynamism, and I like the X-logo incorporated here.

Here’s a look at the Charles Xavier minifigure compared to the X-Mansion version. This one has a more traditional wheelchair, and isn’t the snazzy floating yellow wheelchair we see in the comics and animated series, so part of me feels like this build is inspired by the Fox X-Men movies rather than X-Men 97 and the animated series.

Here’s a look at both minifigures and how they compare. Nothing is exclusive about this version of Charles Xavier, so you could easily re-create it. I’m glad that LEGO didn’t slot an exclusive minifigure into this GWP.

And here’s how Cerebro looks like alongside the X-Mansion. As mentioned, it isn’t really an add-on build, so doesn’t quite fit in with the larger set, but is a nice display piece for those wanting to display Cerebro and Professor X on its own.

Personally, I think Cerebro is a more substantial GWP than last year’s Marvel Taxi, which was included as a companion GWP to the 76269 Avengers Tower. The brick-count is much higher, and the printed elements are superb, plus it provides an alternative variant of Professor X.

I think it’s a great incentive to convince people to buy the 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion when it launches on 1 November. The X-Mansion is one of the most anticipated LEGO Marvel sets this year, and with the holiday season approaching, I expect it to be very popular (especially as you can also get 40698 Books Are My Passion as well), so I won’t be surprised if the Cerebro GWP sells out in under 48 hours.

Sets like these are designed as rewards for fans who purchase pricey sets like the X-Mansion on Day 1, or those looking to offset the cost by re-selling them. With the exclusive printed elements, I think the value of Cerebro GWP will hold remarkably well, and would recommend not hesitating if you plan on getting the X-Mansion.

If you’re on a budget, the prudent thing to do as always is to just wait a few months as LEGO is likely to eventually discount 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion, either directly or through a 3rd party retailer.

76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion will be available on 1 November 2024 exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store for LEGO Insiders. Fans who order the set between 1-7 November 2024, you’ll also receive a limited edition 5009015 Cerebro gift with purchase.

What do you think of the LEGO Cerebro GWP? Will it convince you to spring for the X-Mansion at launch?
