LEGO Gift Guide: The Best LEGO Gaming Sets Of 2024

With the holiday season upon us and loved ones young and old dutifully turning in their wishlists, it’s set to be another year in which the gift of LEGO will be hard to beat.
The beauty of a LEGO set is there are so many different themes and interests to choose from, so the eyes of even non-LEGO fans have the potential to light up when they unwrap and see their favourite franchises and characters on the box.
With this in mind, we wanted to focus on the gamers in everyone’s lives, and the huge potential for a new LEGO set to be the winning gift this season. LEGO has really leaned into gaming of late, so there’s a huge amount of variety and some really stellar options for that someone in your life who’s into gaming, LEGO, or both. Whether it’s Super Mario, Minecraft, Sonic the Hedgehog or even The Legend of Zelda, let’s take a look at some of the hottest LEGO Gaming sets right now that would make excellent gifts!
It’s also a great opportunity for last minute Christmas presents and if you need any ideas to qualify for the upcoming December 2024 GWPs.

LEGO Super Mario

It’s hard to talk about LEGO and gaming without mentioning Super Mario, and this year there’s yet another fun and diverse line-up of LEGO Super Mario sets that should yield something for Mario fans of any age or interest.
The big-ticket set for 2024 is absolutely the 71438 Super Mario & Yoshi, which recreates the classic character sprites from Super Mario World complete with mechanical movement to simulate the original running animation and an extendable tongue for Yoshi. It’s a top-notch set that looks great on display and is a heap of fun to build, making it an easy choice for Mario fans – especially older fans that grew up on the SNES era of games. You can read my review of it here.
Another great set for the older Mario fans is the 71426 Piranha Plant, which wouldn’t look out of place beside other Mario sets or even a Botanical Collection display. This one’s consistently out of stock but you may be able to secure one in time for the gifting season if you jump on it right now.
For the younger fans, my two favourite kid-friendly Super Mario sets for 2024 are definitely the 71437 Bowser Express Train and 71436 King Boo’s Haunted Mansion, both of which are some of the biggest and most impressive of the interactive figure-compatible sets we’ve had so far. There are new, updated versions of the interactive Mario, Luigi and Peach character packs available too, in case they need them!
- Super Mario & Yoshi – US$129.99 / AU$199.99 / £114.99 / €129.99 / CAD$169.99

LEGO Minecraft

Another massively-popular LEGO gaming theme, Minecraft has some great news sets this year that’ll appeal to both LEGO Minecraft collectors and fans of the game looking for a cool display piece.
The latter will be well-served by 21265 The Crafting Table, which is both a neat throwback to the very first LEGO Minecraft “Micro World” sets as well as a decent decor piece for adult LEGO fans. You can read my review here for more on the fun of the build and the versatile ways to display it.
For younger builders and Minecraft players, LEGO dropped a decent number of new sets this year, but the two most exciting in my eyes are 21261 The Wolf Stronghold, which depicts a great-looking stronghold door scene along with wolves and skeleton mobs to add to their collection, and 21264 The Ender Dragon and End Ship, which represents some truly iconic gameplay from Minecraft.
- 21265 The Crafting Table – US$89.99 / AU$129.99 / £79.99 / €89.99 / CAD$119.99

- 21264 The Ender Dragon and End Ship – US$79.99 / AU$129.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 / CAD$99.99
LEGO Fortnite

LEGO debuted the Fortnite very recently, and it’s already yielded some great-looking and popular builds. For longtime Fortnite fans of all ages, the 77073 Battle Bus is an easy pick – the bus itself is an impressive rendition of the in-game version, but even more exciting are the nine included Fortnite minifigures that bring together a bunch of skins from across Fortnite history. You can read about them and what makes them special in our explainer here.
For older Fortnite players, 77072 Peely Bone is an adult-age set that’s got a lot more bones, guts and guns than we usually see from LEGO while still being appropriately goofy. It’s a super cool, very dynamic piece that I’m hoping to see under my own tree.
And for the younger builders, the 77071 Supply Llama is another instantly-recognisable bit of Fortnite imagery that works great as a LEGO set.
- 77073 Battle Bus – US$99.99 / AU$169.99 / £89.99 / €99.99 / CAD$129.99
- 77072 Peely Bone – US$99.99 / AU$149.99 / £89.99 / €99.99 / CAD$129.99
- 77071 Supply Llama – US$39.99 / AU$59.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 / CAD$49.99
LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog

It’s a big year for Sonic the Hedgehog, with the third feature film set to arrive these holidays and mark the full debut of Shadow the Hedgehog in the Sonic Cinematic Universe.
Given it’s the Year of Shadow, the easiest recommendations are the two new sets starring the brooding hedgehog anti-hero. For older builders you’ve got the 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog set, which is something a bit different from most of the other gaming sets and offers a buildable statue of Shadow’s head that hardcore fans can display along with their other Sonic or Shadow merch.
Younger Sonic fans might be more into 76995 Shadow the Hedgehog Escape, giving them a small and simple but effective set that includes Shadow’s iconic bike, a lab section and Rhinobot, and goes along with the other kid-friendly Sonic sets. If you’re looking for more than just Shadow, you can assemble the whole Sonic crew between 76998 Knuckles and the Master Emerald Shrine, 76997 Tails’ Adventure Boat and the biggest of the lot, 76999 Super Sonic vs. Egg Drillster.
- 77000 Shadow the Hedgehog – US$69.99 / AU$99.99 / £59.99 / €69.99 / CAD$89.99

- 76999 Super Sonic vs. Egg Drillster – US$79.99 / AU$129.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 / CAD$99.99
LEGO The Legend of Zelda

While there’s only been one LEGO The Legend of Zelda set released so far, it couldn’t be more iconic. At US$299.99 / AU$449.99 / £259.99 it’s definitely not one for stockings or a family gift swap, but for the hardcore Zelda fan in your life you really can’t go past the 77092 Great Deku Tree 2-in-1.
This huge, 2500-piece set depicts the Great Deku Tree as seen in the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64 or as seen in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, giving builders the opportunity to pick their favourite iteration to construct or simply start the build over for twice the fun. It’s a stunning display piece that even non-LEGO fans with an affinity for The Legend of Zelda would be proud to have on show. Not convinced? LEGO Animal Crossing

To the delight of anyone who’s poured hundreds of hours into an Animal Crossing game at some point in their lives, LEGO has been quietly pumping out new building sets at a decent pace.
The most recently-released LEGO Animal Crossing kit is definitely some of the most appealing, too, with renditions of crucial island infrastructure and culture, like the 77051 Fly with Dodo Airlines – one of the very first moments in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Perhaps even more exciting is 77052 K.K.’s Concert at the Plaza, a bigger (and slightly pricier) set that not only includes some great models with flexible building options but also comes with three fan-favourite characters in K.K., Isabelle and Audie.
There are a heap of adorable LEGO Animal Crossing sets from earlier in the year, too, with 77049 Isabelle’s House Visit and 77050 Nook’s Cranny & Rosie’s House being two easy picks.
- 77051 Fly with Dodo Airlines – US$37.99 / AU$59.99 / £31.99 / €37.99 / CAD$49.99
- 77052 K.K.’s Concert at the Plaza – US$79.99 / AU$129.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 / CAD$99.99
- 77049 Isabelle’s House Visit – US$39.99 / AU$69.99 / £34.99 / €39.99 / CAD$49.99
