Review: Every LEGO Wicked set (2024)

The 2024 Wicked movie starring Arianna Grande and Cynthia Erivo is currently tearing up the box office worldwide and in case you forget, there are also LEGO Wicked movie tie-in sets. These launched in October 2024, and to commemorate the movie being in cinemas, I’ve decided to review all of them in one go!
If you’ve been caught up with Wicked-mania and want to get into the LEGO sets this holiday season, here’s a quick guide to what to expect from each set.
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicking off, it’s also a great time to pick these sets up as most retailers are discounting them. For example, in the US, Amazon has Welcome to Emerald City on sale for 16% off and Amazon Australia has 30% off most of the range.
Here are the product pages from LEGO.com

75681 Glinda, Elphaba, Nessarose at Shiz Uni

75681 Glinda, Elphaba, Nessarose at Shiz Uni is the sleeper pick of the 2024 LEGO Wicked releases. At US$29.99 / AU$49.99, it’s firmly in budget-friendly territory and is a great set that features 3 main characters (including Elphaba and Glinda), and plenty of playable features, making this particularly good for younger builders.

You get the Big 3 Wicked characters as minidolls, Elphaba, her wheelchair-bound sister Nessarose and Glinda. Their outfits are exclusive to this set, making them unique variants for completionists, and for younger kids, just getting Elphaba and Glinda in a set is a big win for playability.
Elphaba’s sister Nessarose has a much more prominent role in Act 2 (no spoilers, don’t worry), so having her here for fans as they eagerly await Wicked 2 is a good move. Overall, no complaints – the minidolls are expressive, and have great prints, and there are even some rare recolours like Nessarose ‘s wheelchair.

The build doesn’t really represent the grandeur of of Shiz University, but the coral boat with two new printed foils make up for the slightly basic build.
The Shiz University build is basic because it’s meant for younger, less experienced builders, but at least the colours are nice, and it does a decent job of providing a small space for the minidolls included.

75682 Elphaba and Glinda Figures

One of the big innovations from LEGO in 2024 are these new LEGO dolls, a brand new building form that made its debut with LEGO Wicked and 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure.
75682 Elphaba and Glinda Figures retails for US$54.99 / AU$99.99 and features two buildable dolls of Glinda and Elphaba, with near-full articulation and a slight bobblehead Chibi look to them.
These come across as quite unusual when you first see them, but they have quickly grown on me, and I think these have potential to bring to life different characters, and offer a novel building experience suited for older builders, who want to proudly display their interests.

Both Elphaba and Glinda’s faces are printed, which really bring these dolls to life, although the grey ball-joints in the neck area are quite distracting visually, and are elements that I wish LEGO had recoloured to give them a more uniform look.

The buildable display stand helps improve the composition and displayability of the model, and this gorgeous printed foil element with the Emerald City in the background through a circular window makes for a great focal point.

The LEGO Wicked dolls have similar cores, but the finishes are vastly different, providing a fresh experience for both models. They’re also very articulate, so you can pose them as you see fit, and they also come with new hand clip elements which ensure that they can grasp various accessories.
These aren’t for everybody, but aesthetically, 75682 Elphaba and Glinda Figures look great and it’s always an exciting time when LEGO debuts new build formats. I’d really like slightly cheaper single packs for different characters from other movies, books and licensed properties to round out the collection and see what other fun things LEGO can do with these new doll figures.

75683 Glinda and Elphaba’s Dormitory

75683 Glinda and Elphaba’s Dormitory is the obligatory licensed LEGO set that doubles as some form of jewellery case/chest that opens up to reveal a small diorama. We’ve seen this mostly in Disney sets, and I can never come around to them, mostly because they’re priced on the higher side which might dissuade more budget-conscious consumers – aka parents or those looking for gifts.
At US$69.99 / AU$99.99, it’s a big ask although the 740-pieces included does make it feel substantial.

You get a buildable trunk, a nod to Glinda’s luggage and belongings she brings with her to Shiz University that opens up to reveal their dormitory rooms. To be fair, the build is quite clever, and it’s quite charming in parts.

Here’s a look at the different sections of the dormitory which Glinda and Elphaba share in Wicked. It’s mostly filled with boxes and boxes of Glinda’s stuff, much to the chagrin of Elphaba.

This scene and location is home to one of Wicked’s best known songs, Popular, where Glinda shows Elphaba the ropes on how to dress and act right to be popular, and the minidoll selection reflects that with alternate outfits for both Elphaba and Glinda.
Glinda’s fashion is impeccable, and I really like her frilly dress here.

Closing up the trunk (which can be locked with a key), you can also check out the object builds including Elphaba’s green bottle, a small container to store all the loose bits, as well as this gorgeous pink rose (with trans-green leaves!) that looks like it snuck out of the LEGO Botanicals collection.
The rose is splendid, and is almost a carbon copy of the roses from the LEGO Bouquet of Roses, jusy recoloured in pink.

75684 Welcome to Emerald City

75684 Welcome to Emerald City is the flagship set of the LEGO Wicked wave, and is the set to get for fans of the musical or movie as it delivers the complete Wicked experience in LEGO.
Emerald City is brought to life in grand fashion, with plenty of interesting build techniques to capture the various shades of green, as well as transparent elements aplenty. It has size and is quite tall with a 3-storey tower that makes this look fabulous on display.

The minidoll lineup is also sensational, with protagonists Glinda and Elphaba in their best-known outfits, with Elphaba in her Wicked Witch outfit (complete with broom) and Elphaba in her fairy pink dress, with her wand and tiara.
Rounding out the cast are Wicked staples, Fiyero (played by dreamboat Jonathan Bailey in the movie), and antagonist Madam Morrible and of course the Wizard himself, also played by another dreamboat, Jeff Goldblum.
It’s the who’s who of Wicked so if you’re a fan, this is the set to get, if only for the minidolls.

The LEGO Emerald City design is gorgeous, and one of the nicest fantasy buildings put out by LEGO this year. It has a LEGO Elves vibe to it, and features some really great decorations and sections – I especially like the Wizard’s stain glass window, and the tall window at the top of the tower, where Elphaba flies off in her broom, as Act 1 concludes with Wicked anthem Defying Gravity.

Emerald City is also bustling with play sections, with sections to buy cakes, cosmetics, and even toffee apples, as well as the Wizard’s iconic talking head.

LEGO Wicked fans should absolutely aim for this, as it delivers the complete LEGO Wicked experience, has all your favourite characters from Act 1 and comes in a gorgeous model that looks like nothing from LEGO’s current day portfolio, yet doesn’t compromise on play features or aesthetics.
Overall rating: 4/5 ★★★★✰
And that’s it for my mini reviews of all the LEGO Wicked sets! These are going to be sought-after gifts by Wicked fans, and theatre enthusiasts, especially with the movie being so popular at the box office, and Christmas approaching!
With Black Friday and Cyber Monday kicking off this weekend, it’s a great opportunity to find a bargain or discount on these sets from retailers like Amazon which has Welcome to Emerald City on sale for 16% off or Amazon Australia has 30% off most of the range.
