Review: LEGO 77053 Stargazing with Celeste

There are 3 new LEGO Animal Crossing sets released in January 2025, and the most interesting set of this wave is also the smallest with 77053 Stargazing with Celeste!

At only 78 pieces and a very accessible US$9.99 / AU$14.99 pricetag, this is a great entry-level set that introduces fan-favourite character, Celeste to the growing LEGO Animal Crossing theme.

Here’s a quick review and detailed look into the set!

The big drawcard of the set is the Celeste Minifigure! She’s a fan-favourite Owl character, who is the younger sister of Blathers. In previous games, Celeste also used to work in the museum, but in Animal Crossing New Horizons, she’s an especially important NPC as she visits your island randomly on clear nights, and if you’re lucky enough to meet her, she’ll reward you with rare celestial-based DIY Recipes!

The Celeste minifigure is brilliant, with her head being a completely new mould, and feature vibrant printing across her head, torso, legs and even arms. Her new Owl head mould is an interesting one, as LEGO can easily reprint it to give us a Blathers minifigure, hopefully in a future LEGO Animal Crossing Museum set!

Here’s a look at her back printing, where she has a little tail, and also arm print with some feathery details. At first, I thought her arms would look a little weird especially the presence of hands, as Celeste has wings but it doesn’t completely ruin the aesthetic.

A custom winged arm would’ve been preferred, but would likely be too cost-prohibitive as they need a new mould.

Here’s how Celeste looks in-game!

Celeste comes with a book, which has a cool printed tile with a Constellation on the inside, a nod not only to Celeste’s love of the stars but also her the DIY Zodiac recipes that she hands out to players.

Here’s the completed model, which is small, but a very complete and cute mini diorama of LEGO Animal Crossing! In spite of the size, it has everything you’d want from a Celeste-based set, and despite coming in at only 78 pieces, has a really nice composition based on how everything is laid out.

On one module, you have a Pine Tree, and some Purple Flowers – these are the new Peony elements which Botanical fans will be excited to get their hands on as they are a relatively new element.

On the other side is a small telescope to gaze at the stars.

And in the middle, there’s a small picnic scene, as well as a a blue beach tile. On the blue beach tile, there are 2 Small Star Fragments, and a Large Star Fragment, which are materials that are used to craft Celeste DIY Recipes!

This is a nice nod to the mechanic in Animal Crossing New Horizons, where there are occasional Meteor Showers, and when you look up, press A and make a wish, you’ll find Star Fragments washed up ashore on the beach the next day!

The focal point of the build is this huge Crescent Moon Chair which is just a lovely little build with some fairly advanced techniques to get the shape right!

In my own Animal Crossing New Horizons Island, I have a special affinity for Celeste furniture, and her’es a look at my little Moon/Fairy Garden that I have setup where I proudly display my Celeste furniture!

What I liked:

  • Small but accessible set featuring one of ACNH’s most popular characters
  • Crescent Moon Chair is a great build and looks fantastic
  • Lovely little nods to the game

What I didn’t like:

  • Absolutely nothing at all

Final Thoughts: This is a great LEGO Animal Crossing set that I think will be incredibly popular. LEGO are really generous to place one of the most sought-after and beloved ACNH characters in a US$9.99 / AU$14.99 set, which is the cheapest (non-polybag) LEGO Animal Crossing set so far, so you don’t have to stress too much about the price.

Despite this being 78 pieces, it makes for a great standalone display piece thanks to the large and aesthetically-pleasing Crescent Moon Chair, or you can easily integrate this to your LEGO Animal Crossing collection.

There’s a lot to like here, and this will definitely be one of the best-selling LEGO Animal Crossing sets, and I always welcome important characters placed in the cheapest possible sets, which is a win for fans.

Final Score

3
Build
A fairly simple build but the Crescent Moon was a fun build
4
Minifigures
Celeste is done well, even with hands! Very excited to see her head be repurposed into Blathers
4
Real Value
It’s the cheapest possible LEGO set which is a big plus for Animal Crossing fans, especially if it goes on sale making it even better value
3
Innovation
Nothing super innovative except for the size and form factor
5
Keepability
A great standalone display piece that will be easy to find space for, but can also integrate well with other LEGO Animal Crossing sets
