ARTIST STATEMENT
"My oil paintings of pigs, chickens, and all other animals willing to pose are explorations of color, paint texture, and design. I have been asked, "Why pigs and chickens?" Well, for one, they are free models and, two, they make me smile.

"When I begin a painting, I use my photographs to construct a composition by picking out forms and the positive/negative relationship between them. I then study the subject to get a sense of their behavior. I love color, texture, paint, form, composition, serendipity, a well told story or a good joke, and these elements may present themselves through different levels of intensity depending on which sparked my inspiration. I want to learn, express my creativity, and have fun when I make my art.

"I am a native Rhode Islander who earned a Bachelor of fine Art from Rhode Island College in 1993 and a Master of Fine Art from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth in 1996. I have participated in Artist Open Studio since its creation and have painted portraits of rescue animals to raise funds for the RISPCA."
