Abigail, a graduate of the RI School of Design with a BFA in Painting, is a primarily representational artist,
but not entirely. For her, whether the artwork is a portrait, landscape, one of her dream series, or an abstract piece, the formal issues of light, color, space, pattern, rhythm and balance remain the same.
"Generally, I like to create a composition which plays with elements of pattern, repetition of form, spatial
issues and contrast. I am drawn towards complexity, but I try to balance that tendency by focusing on a single subject matter from time to time."
An intense palette and strong graphic quality are trademarks of her style. This dynamic balance of color
and design lends a sense of immediacy to her work.
Her art has been heavily influenced by her travels to Central and South America.
"I'm attracted to strong color. Maybe that's why I love Latin America where there is so much life and color,
particularly in the tropics. Ever since my first trip to Mexico in 1984, I have been traveling to Latin America. The experience transformed me and I have been drawn there ever since."
More and more, Abigail is also drawn to a sense of the mystical, aspects of which she incorporates into her
work. For her, the process of becoming an artist takes a lifetime and one is never complete, yet it is this process which continually feeds and enriches her life.
